Brushing your pet's teeth is an often overlooked part of grooming and should be done more often than you might think. For dogs and cats, it is recommended to brush their teeth at least three times a week - ideally daily. Here's a little challenge for you to get your pet used to it:
day 1
Gently stroke and massage your pet's snout and slowly lift their lips for about 30 seconds. In this way, the pet can slowly get used to the cleaning movements.
Reward them with a treat at the end of the session!
day 2
Repeat the exercise from day one, then gently brush your finger or a finger toothbrush with a small amount of pet toothpaste over the pet's teeth. This should only take about 30 seconds.
Reward them with a treat at the end of the session!
day 3
Repeat the second day, adding 15 seconds to the time.
Don't forget to reward your pet!
day 4
Rub your finger or finger toothbrush over your teeth for 30 seconds and repeat for another 30 seconds in the evening.
After that, you can give your pet a small treat.
day 5
Repeat the process as on the fourth day and don't forget to reward the animal with treats.
day 6
Repeat the process as on day five, with the addition of gently rubbing the pet's teeth.
day 7
After a week you will notice if the pet is ready or needs more time to get used to it. If you feel that the pet is not taking the brushing well, gradually increase the brushing time until you are able to spend a minute on each side of the mouth.
